CoMath Update for April 11, 2023

I had to hold off a few days with this month's CoMath Update to include a big announcement about Zearn access for all, as well as the latest updates on HB23-1231. Plus, CoLab registration is open and the NCSM Summer Leadership Academy is now official. Keep reading for all the details!

Now available: Free access to Zearn Math to accelerate math learning

As a part of Colorado’s statewide investment in math learning acceleration, districts, schools, and educators can receive free access to Zearn Math for the 2023–2024 school year. Zearn Math is a top-rated K–8 math learning platform that educators can use across instructional times to catch kids up and move them forward in math.  All Colorado districts will have free access to high-quality instructional materials, training for educators, materials to support families and caregivers, and resources to flexibly implement Zearn Math during core math, intervention blocks, after-school tutoring, and summer learning.

To learn more about this no-cost investment in mathematics, see Colorado's page on the Zearn website for more information. To learn more about the announcement, read the full media release from Governor Polis.

HB23-1231: Math in Pre-kindergarten Through Twelfth Grade

House Bill 1231, titled "Math in Pre-kindergarten Through Twelfth Grade," was introduced into the Colorado legislature on March 7. The bill was accompanied by a press conference covered by Chalkbeat, the Colorado Sun, The Gazette, Colorado Public Radio, KKTV (with video), among others. The bill cleared the House Education Committee on March 16 and cleared the House Appropriations Committee on April 10. The bill was scheduled to get its second reading in the House Chamber today, April 11, but was laid over and will await its reading tomorrow. If passed by the House, the bill will make its way to the Senate.
