Standards Revision Update

At their December 2024 meeting, the State Board of Education made decisions regarding the review and revision of the Colorado Academic Standards for comprehensive health; mathematics; reading, writing and communicating; and science.

After considering benchmarking studies and stakeholder feedback for each subject area, the State Board made the following decisions for standards revisions:

Comprehensive Health: Adopt the current standards without revisions.

Mathematics: Convene a committee to review and propose potential revisions to the high school mathematics standards only.

Reading, Writing and Communicating: Adopt the current standards without revisions.

Science: Direct CDE staff to evaluate and make recommendations to strengthen the K-12 science standards around climate science.

CDE is currently developing a timeline for revisions to the mathematics and science standards and will make the timeline available in early January. Check back periodically for updates related to the revisions of the math and science standards.
