Goals & Standards - Similarity, Right Triangles, and Trigonometry

Similarity, Right Triangles, and Trigonometry - Grade Band: High School.

Mathematical Goals

This toolkit will address similarity, right triangles, and Trigonometry. This lesson will help you assess how well students understand the concepts of (HS.G-SRT.B):

  • Similarity, Right Triangles, and Trigonometry: Prove theorems involving similarity.
  • Prove theorems about triangles.
  • Use congruence and similarity criteria for triangles to solve problems and to prove relationships in geometric figures

Mathematical Practice Standards

Math practice standards are thinking strategies for developing skills and habits in math learning. They focus on concepts to cultivate proficiency and prepare students for real-world applications. “These practices rest on important ‘processes and proficiencies’ with longstanding importance in mathematics education.” The Math Practices describe ways in which students ought to engage with the content as they grow in their mathematical expertise.

This lesson relates to the following Standards for Mathematical Practice (MP)

  • MP1: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
  • MP3: Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
  • MP4: Model with mathematics
  • MP7: Look for and make use of the structure
  • MP8: Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
