13.01(C)(2)(b): Passed a CDE-approved undergraduate or graduate reading course and passed the end of course assessment of learning
Process
Educators will submit evidence of meeting the evidence-based training in teaching reading requirement to the CDE through the Colorado Online Licensing (COOL) system.
Application Closing Date - June 16, 2025
The deadline to submit applications for Pathway Option 3: Appropriate undergraduate or graduate university course in teaching reading will be June 16, 2025 at 3:59 p.m.
This will ensure that all submitted applications can be reviewed prior to the August 1, 2025 deadline as well as give educators who submit an application that is not approved time to complete one of the other pathway options to meet the READ Act teacher training requirement by the August 1, 2025 deadline.

District reports this information to the CDE upon request.
Teacher Duties/Tasks
Please note: teachers must retain all documentation.
- The undergraduate or graduate reading course must meet the following requirements:

Consist of a minimum of 45 content hours;

Address the content of the educator preparation literacy standards referenced in the state board’s Rules for the Administration of Educator License Endorsements, 1 CCR 301-101, section 4.02(5) through 4.02(12); and

Includes an end of course assessment that teachers can provide evidence of passing.

Teacher reviews College Course Pathway Application and completes application worksheet.

Teacher submits all required components of the application using the link below.

Required application components: transcript, syllabus, scored end of course assessment, college course application worksheet parts 1, 2, and 3

If the course is approved, the teacher receives a certificate of approval of completion from the CDE.

Teacher submits his/her documentation of completion through the Colorado Online Licensing (COOL) system.

Teacher receives and saves a copy of documentation from the CDE that demonstrates the “READ Act designation” attached to their CDE file.

Teacher notifies the district that he/she has met this requirement and provides the district with documentation.
