Before this lesson:
Students should be fluent in counting from zero to ten.
Students Do:
Have students count a grocery cart of items up to ten. Allow them to select one item to start with and count up to 10 ( at least).
This Toolkit Lesson:
focuses on understanding the relationship between numbers and quantities by counting quantities.
Students Do:
Also when shopping, the child can assist in sorting items based on quantity, such as separating fruits into groups of three or four. This helps develop organizational skills and reinforces the concept of quantity.
After this lesson:
Moving beyond one-to-one correspondence, students can learn to count objects in various arrangements, such as in a line, scattered, or in a pattern. This enhances their flexibility in applying counting skills. Also, starting to Count by Twos, Fives, and Tens
Students Do:
exploring toys at home, the student counts toy cars, not just in a line, but also scattered around the room. They demonstrate flexibility in counting and begin to group the cars by twos, fives, and tens, showcasing an early understanding of counting patterns.
