Non-classroom setting, one on one

Non-classroom

Setting: One-on-One

Before the Lesson

During the Lesson

  • Students should be expected to engage and discuss their thinking with one another. Try to balance their opportunities to practice independently as well.
  • If the skill is too abstract, the optional hands-on methods can help students really “see” the triangles.

After the Lesson

  • Reflection on similar triangles
  • Group students based on interest and assign them a Real World Problem based on that interest.

Before the Lesson

During the Lesson

  • Though this is the suggested flow of the lesson, take your cues from the student you are working with and adjust time and order based on their needs.

After the Lesson

  • Reflection on similar triangles
  • To solidify learning and apply this new skill, have your student select 1-3 Real World Problems to engage in over the next couple of days or weeks.

A Note About Timing

Decorative pencil icon

This toolkit has several components and activities. The activities in this toolkit can be divided up over several days and can be completed at any time. There is a suggestion for breaks throughout the toolkit. However, you know your student(s) best and know the amount of time you have to help them. Feel free to take a break after every activity or chunk activities together in the amount of time you have. Timings are approximate and will depend on the needs of the student.
