Purpose of Assessments
CMAS: PARCC English Language Arts and Math
The primary purpose of PARCC is to provide high quality assessments of students’ progression toward postsecondary readiness and success.
CMAS: Science and Social Studies
The purpose of Colorado Measures of Academic Standards (CMAS): Science and Social Studies is to provide a standards-based assessment to measure students’ progress on the Colorado Academic Standards in content areas of science and social studies.
The purpose of the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) Alternative Assessment is to validly measure what students with the significant cognitive disabilities know and can do in the content areas of English Language Arts and Math.
Co-Alt: Science and Social Studies
The primary purpose of the Colorado Alternate Assessment (CoAlt) program is to determine the level at which Colorado students with significant cognitive disabilities meet the Extended Evidence Outcomes (EEOs) of the Colorado Academic Standards in the content areas of science and social studies.
Policy for Determining Paper-Based Testing vs. Online Testing
The paper/pencil accommodation form is only available for a student who:
- Has a neurological disorder, a condition that causes seizures, or another health condition that prevents the student from accessing the computer*
- Needs a braille form with tactile graphics
- Requires assistive technology not compatible with TestNav 8
- Writes responses in a language other than English or Spanish
*Students with disabilities that prevent them from utilizing devices safely may meet this criterion.
Also, students who are court-ordered to not use the Internet are still able to test online as the TestNav8 software is configured to “lock-down” any internet access.
If a student is court-ordered to not use a computer, choose the Paper/Pencil option.
