Pre-Lesson Knowledge Check Task:  Center of Action Activity & Answers and Data Sheet

Pre-lesson Knowledge Check Task:

Center of Action Activity & Answers and Data Sheet

Directions:
  1. Students should complete this activity involving finding the mean, median, and mode from a data set.
  2. Detailed directions are included on the activity worksheet.
  3. Instructions are included that will guide student(s) in case they are confused about how to find these measures.
  4. You may want to walk through the steps to find the mean, median, and mode with the student(s) if they are struggling. If the students need help reading the content, help them.

Focus: MP1: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them and MP2: Reason abstractly and quantitatively.

Decorative question mark:

Why are students doing this/what are they getting out of it?

The mean, median, and mode are the measures of the center of a data set. Being able to identify and find these data points is critical to understanding which measure of center to use and under which conditions.

Directions for Scoring & Understanding Student Responses

After the students complete the Pre-Lesson Knowledge check, you will want to help them in case they get stuck.

When they feel ready to share, look at their answers/responses on the Center of Action Activity & Answers. This answer key will be reviewed before starting the lesson and after the warm-up.
