These are also great ideas for students who can do the math work above but struggle with explaining it.
Lastly, it is effective to have students solidify their understanding by doing hands-on and real-world applications.

- Baking: Find a favorite recipe and make a half-, double-, or triple batch - or adjust the recipe by any factor.
- Architecture: Research a building and create a scale diagram to represent a room or floor.
- Shopping: Calculate percent increase or percent decrease - Think markups, discounts, tax, and tips.
- Travel: Determine how much gas will be used on a family road trip or the average speed of the family car during the trip.
- Map Making: Create a scale drawing of your town or a local park.
