- Distance and Travel: Plan an imaginary road trip and ask where stopping places would be if you stopped ¼, ⅓, ½, etc. of the way.
- Baking: Find a kid-friendly recipe and use a 1-cup measuring tool. Ask the student to imagine where ½ cup, ¼ cup, and ⅔ cups would be.
- Plant a Garden: Plan out a future garden. Partition spaces for each vegetable and label with fractions.
- Share a Pizza or Pie: Draw a number line to represent how much of the pizza or pie each friend would receive if shared equally.
- Arts and Crafts: Use yarn or other crafting string. Ask the student to cut the whole string into halves, the next one into thirds, another into fourths, etc. When finished cutting, design an art project with the string.
