Showcasing the “I” in ICAP

October 31, 2016 and March 10, 2017

On October 31, 2016,160 ICAP practitioners gathered at D11 in Colorado Springs to attend a series of TedTalk style showcases (brochure) that reflected and “I” practices done well, participated in a “Share Fair,” and reflected on next steps. Welcome from the Mayor of Colorado SpringsDistrict 11 ICAP webpage and Ted Talk, C.R.A.F.T. . Much like a ship built for a specific purpose, we were built to help students, our schools, and districts foster a climate/culture where there really is….Individuality and Intentionality in the ICAP!  

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Random Acts of Kindness:  How does SEL curricula, including the Random Acts of Kindness K-12 curriculum, support the "I" in ICAP through SEL competency building: self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills, etc. And, why that matters.  

Climate & Cultural Connection:  Leadership experts Chris Natzke and KellyAnne Zielinski share Self Leadership strategies with education professionals to support students in expanding self-awareness, discovering their gifts, talents, passions,  as well as, taking ownership of developing meaningful career and postsecondary options.  

Who you are matters 3 Problems, 3 Clues to Solutions! Three barriers stand between us and our ability to fully actualize the “I” in ICAP: 1. Limited Time; 2. Disengaged Learners; 3. Paradigm Shift. 3,2,1- There are three clues to solutions that help bridge the gap and support our ability to fully engage learners in self-discovery and career exploration: 1. Narrative Assessment Model; 2. Tap Into Everyday- Games and Stories; 3. Scale-up Blended Delivery. This game is an interactive narrative assessment approach to helping learners clarify who they are, tell unique stories about their experiences, explore new possibilities, and take action through intentional exploration. YouScience and Indigo:  From the practitioner perspective, how can ICAP be implemented in order to gain buy-in from students and staff?  Make it meaningful!  This section will stress how to have career conversations with students, by making the conversations more relevant and connected.

Supporting International Students: There are approximately 130 languages represented throughout Aurora Public Schools. Regardless of where the students come from, they have hopes and dreams that they strive to achieve every day. It is essential to work intentionally to find ways to support each of our learners with an opportunity to map out their postsecondary futures in a way that is relevant and meaningful to each student regardless of language, background, ethnicity, etc. Read about Aurora’s strategic plan,  APS 2020
