Spring 2025 Tentative Colorado State Assessment Windows

A typical state assessment administration season is scheduled for spring 2025 as required by state and federal law. The testing calendar is developed keeping in mind that some schools are on four-day week calendars, some schools may experience a weather closure, and some students may miss a couple of days due to religious observance. While it is not feasible to develop a testing schedule that completely avoids all work-restricted religious holidays every year, they are taken into consideration in determining the calendar.

ACCESS for ELLs

  • January 13 through February 14, 2025

CMAS/CoAlt1: ELA/CSLA/Math/Science/Social Studies2

  • April 7 through April 25, 20253

CO PSAT/SAT

  • April 14 through April 25, 2025

High School CoAlt ELA/Math (DLM) for grades 9 through 111

  • Aligned to PSAT/SAT schedule to the extent possible

1 To the extent possible, students taking the alternate assessment in a content area for which they are participating in a general education class should be assessed at the same time as their general education peers to avoid missed instruction. Schools may also ensure that students taking the alternate assessment do not miss instruction from their general education class(es) through other means.

2 Social studies tests will be administered in grades 4 and 7 at selected schools (a representative sample of schools in Colorado, roughly one-third of schools). The sampling plan of selected schools will be shared with DACs this fall.

3 CMAS/CoAlt Administration Window

  • CDE encourages early returns of paper test books to expedite scoring and results processes and timelines.
  • Students requiring accommodations (including CSLA) should test at the same time as their peers.
  • To accommodate high school assessment schedules including SAT, AP and IB exams, districts can open and close the grade 11 science window early for a total of 3 testing weeks: March 31, 2025 through April 18, 2025.
  • Districts must inform CDE by December 15, 2024 if:
    • An early grade 11 science window will be used (notification provided to CDE through the District Testing Information and Format Selections Form distributed to official DACs upon completion of the Spring 2025 CMAS Administration Training for DACs).
    • They desire flexibility for testing start and/or end dates. Upon completion of the Spring 2025 CMAS Administration Training for DACs, DACs contact CDE Assessment to schedule a meeting to discuss options.
