4. Distance Education

The Distance Education Policy (PDF) ensures adult literacy programs have a means to accurately document and deliver services to learners using flexible instructional models and diverse media. The policy also provides guidance to AEFLA- and AELA-funded programs on how to classify, track, and report acceptable instructional hours for distance education activities.

Both AEFLA and AELA-funded programs also sign Distance Education Assurances.

Before providing distance education, grantees must complete the Distance Education Assurances and select the distance education platforms they intend to use to award instructional hours. If the platform they intend to use is not on AEI's list of approved distance education platforms, the grantee must submit a distance education application to AEI. Applications for non-approved platforms can be submitted at the beginning of each grant cycle and anytime thereafter. AEI may reject any applications where the required description or evidence is insufficient, or the resource does not support instruction aligned to Colorado’s adult education standards (College and Career Readiness Standards and English Language Proficiency Standards).
