Justice Engaged Youth

During the 2024 legislative session, House Bill 24-1216, Supports for Youth in the Juvenile Justice System was passed and signed by the Governor.  The bill includes, among other things, a required interagency working group.

The Dropout Prevention and Student Re-engagement office is managing the operations for the interagency working group and required guidance within this legislation and coordinating efforts with other offices and initiatives across the department related to the data collection, rulemaking, and guidance requirements.

The Interagency group must include members from:

  • The Department of Education, as appointed by the Commissioner
  • The Department of Human Services, as appointed by the Executive Director
  • The Division of Youth Services, as appointed by the Executive Director of the Department of Human Services
  • The Judicial Department, as appointed by the Chief Justice

The Interagency group must be convened by July 1, 2024 and at a minimum, review and make recommendations to the Department of Education and the Joint Education Committees of the House of Representatives and the Senate no later than December 1, 2024.
