The Fountain-Fort Carson High School JROTC Marksmanship Team this summer was named the 2016 Indoor National Champions in Sporter Air Rifle Standing Position.

This is the second year in a row that Fountain-Fort Carson has won the National Championship in Sport Class Standing. The team included graduated senior Anthony Gomez and current seniors Aireonna Gonzales, Brianna Mitta, and Megan Antonio. The team scored 1,353 points out of a total 1,600 possible, which also set a new national record. In addition, Gomez earned the Individual Gold National Champion and Gonzales was named the Individual Silver National Champion.

Also, Mitta out-performed a field of 1,700 junior marksmanship athletes from across the nation to earn one of the 15 coveted positions to compete in the American Legion National Championships at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs next summer. Mitta ended the match finishing in 10th place. She was sponsored by Fountain American Legion Post 38, along with all her teammates at Fountain-Fort Carson.
