Gilcrest Elementary is a small, rural school serving approximately 165 students in grades K through 6. We face dual challenges of a high poverty rate, with approximately 63% of students qualifying for Free or Reduced Lunch (FRL), and students who often enter school with multiple academic risk factors. Despite these challenges, we maintain a strong, positive school culture, consistently achieving an annual attendance rate of 92% or higher and reporting an extremely low occurrence of serious disci…
pline issues. We leverage significant resources to support our learners: Title I funding allows us to hire the equivalent of 1 full-time teacher to address the needs of identified students. We employ two half-time English Language Learner (ELL) teachers to support our large population of students acquiring English. The Early Literacy Grant is in place to bolster reading skills for our K-3 learners. We enrich our curriculum by offering a conversational Spanish class to all students.
