A MESSAGE FROM:

Mount Carbon Elementary School

2025-2026

Mount Carbon is a neighborhood PK-5 Elementary School located in southern Jefferson County School District with approximately 275 students K-5 and 65 PreK students. Our staff is made up of highly qualified educators, the majority of which hold a Master?s degree in education. Teachers in our building have a high commitment to our school?s mission: as a collaborative Mount Carbon community, students are inspired to embrace learning. Mount Carbon creates a strong academic, social and emotional foun… dation. This ensures all students will be prepared for their future. Our school offers full day Kindergarten along with a wide variety of enrichment activities before and after school. Many teachers dedicate their time outside of school hours supporting students academically and socially/emotionally. Examples of clubs offered from staff include Student Forum (leadership), Mount Carbon Sound (music performance), Junior Coaches (leadership and sportsmanship), MC Running Club (health & fitness), Art Club (visual art production) and more. Further enhancing whole child development is the school's implementation of concepts from A Mindset for Learning which helps guide our SEL instruction. The characteristics of empathy, flexibility, persistence, resilience & optimism are taught and reinforced throughout the building. Academic resources include Illustrative Math (IM) for mathematics and HMH Into Reading for literacy. Additional academic enrichment and support for aspiring learners comes via a clearly-defined MTSS process, GT services and acceleration blocks built into our daily schedule. Our community is highly involved and parents support our school both inside and outside the classroom. We pride ourselves on partnering with the community and host several family events throughout the school year. Parents support our PTA and Parent Accountability Committee (PAC) through monthly meetings open to all. PTA and PAC work collaboratively with school leadership to ensure robust, enriching learning opportunities and experiences occur daily.
