About Rocky Mountain Deaf School (5415)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Rocky Mountain Deaf School

2025-2026

Founded in 1997, Rocky Mountain Deaf School is a charter school located within Jeffco. It is our purpose to inspire every deaf student to think, to learn, to achieve and to care. The mission of the Rocky Mountain Deaf School is to provide Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, preschool through 12th grade, a publicly-funded bilingual education which promotes academic excellence, full proficiency in ASL and English literacy, and which supports the home-school connections by offering a language rich e… nvironment that includes the RMDS personnel, the RMDS board, parents and the Deaf community. Rocky Mountain Deaf School has been identified as an Alternative Education Campus (AEC). RMDS meets the requirements of at-risk, due to the fact that 100% students attending RMDS receive special education service and are on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). In addition, there are other high-risk factors that apply to our populations of students. Currently, 50% of students attending RMDS are eligible for free and reduced lunch. 30% of students have been identified with an additional disability in addition to Deaf and Hard of hearing disability. Rocky Mountain Deaf School provides a variety of support and service, beyond academics ranging from after school programs/sports and clubs and related services such as speech and language, occupational and physical therapy, counseling and American Sign Language service. Each year, RMDS population includes 20% new students to the program. Some students arrive with significant delays and are provided intensive support in addition to academics. Much like schools in the state of Colorado, RMDS has experienced a 5% enrollment of Newcomer students. Due to not having auditory access, some of them have arrived with little to no language and schooling. In addition to CMAS and College Board assessments, RMDS relies on NWEA MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) assessment results to show student achievement and growth. RMDS students take reading, language arts and math MAP assessments three times per year. In addition to MAP, RMDS also assesses students' language skills in American Sign Language (ASL). Multiple assessments are used based on age to determine levels of pragmatic language, social language, and academic language. As part of the Unified Improvement Process, which requires collaboration from our community, data is shared with staff, leadership team and our School Accountability Committee multiple times throughout the year.
