About Bell Middle School (0694)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Bell Middle School

2025-2026

Bell Middle School is located in Golden, CO and is the only Jeffco neighborhood middle school in Golden. Students begin their experience in 6th grade, taking their four core classes (English, science, social studies, and math) and are placed into a collaboratively developed 6th Grade Orientation class for one of their electives during 1st semester. Second semester, students are placed in Stem Exploration and Humanities, each are a quarter long and are required electives in 6th grade. The purpose… of this model is to facilitate a successful transition into middle school, arguably one of the most challenging transitions students make in K-12 education. Additionally, this model introduces them into subjects they have likely not explored previously and can make an informed decision when they choose to follow either a STEM or a Humanities area of focus for 7th & 8th grades. Bell continues to operate as a middle school model at all grade levels, meaning the teachers on each team all share the same students. Students are placed in math classes based on their skill level, as determined by a body of assessment evidence. In 7th & 8th grades, students choose either a STEM or a Humanities Pathway, which will determine their areas of focus on cross-curricular projects, for showcases, and in their digital portfolios, while meeting grade-level standards in all subjects, regardless of chosen pathway. Students in all grades and pathways participate in cross-curricular learning where students make connections to a central motif, or dominant idea, each semester. In 7th and 8th grade, the central motifs are related to the student?s pathway. This type of learning that intentionally makes connections between different subject areas helps teach our students transferable problem solving skills, give real-world meaning to school assignments, and increases engagement and rigor. Finally, each pathway also has a specific structure or process to help guide students' approaches to projects and activities. Our STEM students utilize the Engineering Design Process to guide their problem solving and brainstorming of solutions, while our students in Humanities explore how their courses of study intersect with The Four Pillars of Humanities (culture, literature, communication and philosophy).
