About Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School (1588)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School

2024-2025

Cheyenne Mountain Junior High (CMJH) serves both 7th and 8th grade students and consists of approximately 610 students. Our enrollment is up for this school year. In the 2023-2024 school year the junior high had 598 students with approximately 27.9% minority, 8.8% students with disabilities, 1.5% limited English proficiency, 17% economically disadvantaged, and 24.5% identified as gifted and talented. The CMJH community is quite stable and benefits from a low rate of mobility (~5%). We are unique… in that we do not house 6th graders in our building and we just have the two grade levels at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School. We also do not operate as a traditional middle school on a block schedule. CMJH operates on a seven class period day with an eighth period for advisory and access class. Access class is a time for students to complete homework and get support from staff to get caught up on missed assignments, late work, receive reteaching, etc. We are fortunate to have physical education classes every day for every student, and we have over 25 elective offerings for our students to choose from when selecting elective classes. We offer honors courses in the areas of social studies, math, science, art, and English. CMJH is entering our fourth year as a Capturing Kids? Hearts school where staff are greeting students at the door, engaging students in ?good things,? and incorporating our schoolwide social contracts in our lessons and classroom discussions. Through the PLC process, our staff is engaging in data analysis and discussions. Based on our most recent school performance frameworks, we are classified as a performance school. While we are proud of our high achievement, despite our best efforts, we continue to be concerned with our low growth. This leads us to our focus for the school year, which we aim to address through continued PLC work.
