About Douglas County High School (2230)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Douglas County High School

2025-2026

Douglas County High School (DCHS) is proud to be the oldest school in Douglas County School District. Originally housed in the Wilcox Building in downtown Castle Rock in 1897, the school moved to its current building in 1961 and has remained at the heart of the community since its inception. Douglas County High School truly has something for everyone. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, all freshman and sophomore students study within the Middle Years Programme (MYP) with an emphasis … on the practical application of the IB Learner Profile. Students are encouraged to be open-minded, reflective, and principled while maintaining a growth mindset based on curiosity and critical thinking when making decisions or solving problems. It is clear that the Personal Project, completed during 10th grade, which encourages research, independent planning, and inquiry, sets the foundation for future academic success. Attracting students from all over Douglas County due to the dynamic and inclusive subject areas offered as part of a fully comprehensive model, DCHS has retained an Agriculture program and Advanced Placement pathways, while boasting an incredible Industrial Arts program and a full range of Career and Technical Education (CTE) options including music, physical education, fine arts, practical arts, and business/marketing. DCHS is honored to have three National Merit semi-finalists, three Boettcher semi-finalists and three Boettcher winners in recent years. In addition, every year millions of dollars in scholarships are awarded to those who have chosen to pursue higher education, which for some includes joining a branch of the Armed Forces or a position in a career technical field. Huskies attending DCHS are filled with school spirit. It is commonplace to find three generations from one family attending a sporting event with both the grandparents and parents sharing anecdotes from their schooling when the building was surrounded by farmland. The community investment in the school continues with hours of volunteering, booster club support, and a desire to ensure traditions that strengthen a strong school culture stay intact. Douglas County High School is supported by an outstanding feeder, including six elementary schools and Mesa Middle School. Wish Week, Homecoming Week, performing arts events and a plethora of other activities offer the very best opportunities for students from Kindergarten to 12th grade, and alumni, to celebrate together and remind each other that it is a privilege to wear purple!
