Mesa Middle School is a 6-8 middle school a part of Douglas County School District in Castle Rock Colorado. Mesa Middle School (MMS) is an International Baccalaureate school and serves approximately 853 students. Mesa's IB/MYP program was evaluated in November, 2022; this process occurs once every five years. Through this process, Mesa was successfully reauthorized. Our Mission statement reads: Mesa is an IB school that uses personalized student centered inquiry based instruction, with a positive and dynamic culture, where students and teachers are highly successful and effective, based on quantitative and qualitative evidence. Our vision statement reads: Mesa students will develop into globally-minded citizens by learning through collaboratively developed, student-centered, and personalized units that address significant content, require in-depth inquiry, incorporate 21st century skills, challenge students to think at high levels, and where students are purposefully and authentically assessed. We currently have two 8th grade pods, two 7th grade pods, one 6th grade pod, and one pod that is a 7th/8th grade split. MMS also has a robust elective catalog including visual arts, design, theater, and music. The MMS staff is made up of about 76 staff members in licensed teacher positions including special education and ELD, and 56 employees that include administration, kitchen staff, security, custodial, office staff, and counseling personnel. MMS also has a demographic that consists of 17% students on IEPs, 26% free and reduced lunch, 30% minority students, 8% multilingual learners, and 11% gifted students. Our current administrative team consists of one head principal, two assistant principals, and a Dean of Students. The administrative team is also assisted by committees such as; IMTSS, Instructional Leadership, and Building Leadership which are made up of teacher leads with representation from all departments, as well as community partners and families that make up our SAC committee and PTSO. Mesa also offers several after school clubs available to all students as well a number of sporting activities such as volleyball, flag football, cross country, track, and wrestling.
