A MESSAGE FROM:
Vision Charter Academy K-8
2023-2024
Vision Charter Academy (VCA) K8 was a part of the K-12 VCA charter school authorized by Delta County School 50J district established since June 18, 2013, until it was determined by the Colorado Department of Education's Finance Department that the model did not fit the within the rules it creates to administer the Public School Finance Act of 1994. Based on this determination, the school split into two schools until the rules and regulations that dictate blended learning schools are solidified. …
VCA has operated within the school district since August 2000. The high school retained the original school code while the K8 applied for and received a new school code requiring two Unified Improvement Plans. The school is located in rural western Colorado serving Delta, Montrose, Gunnison and Mesa Counties. As of September 30, 2023, 56.62% of our learners are eligible for free/reduced lunch. Approximately 75% of learners are Caucasian and Hispanic is the largest minority population. Vision Charter Academy K8 has operated as a blended learning school since 2000 which is prior to this term becoming common in the education world. Blended learning at VCA K8 starts with an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) being created by an in-field Highly Qualified Coordinator (HQC) (teacher). The ILP defines the resources, instructional modality and environment needed to reach the grade level educational goals for each course. Learners have the option to complete their coursework in the home, at an approved community business vendor (for electives only), in an in-person VCA Instructor taught class, in a virtual VCA Instructor taught class, or at a traditional school crossover middle school class. The Highly Qualified Coordinator creates, guides, resources and oversees the progress of the coursework through the Learning Management System and weekly learning sessions with the learner. VCA serves both full-time and part-time learners. Full-time learners enroll in both core and elective courses at VCA. Part-time learners do their core instruction as private registered homeschoolers but register at VCA for electives. We serve around 120 part-time learners currently.
