About Community Montessori School (1883)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Community Montessori School

2024-2025

Community Montessori is a Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) focus school. We are one of approximately 500 public Montessori schools in the country. We are 100% open enrollment drawing families from Arvada to Lafayette to Longmont. Our school was founded in 1995 by the grassroots efforts of parents and teachers. Collaboration and community building are still essential parts of our school. We have seen a reduction in enrollment. Normally we serve approximately 315 students in PreK-5th grade. T… his year 2024-2025 we serve, 280 students. We are actively working to increase our enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year. Our diversity continues to be a source of pride for our school. We are 73% white, 16% Latino, 4% Asian, 1% Black, and 6% of two or more races. We are approximately 20% free and reduced lunch. Our families represent 18 languages. Our school is successful due to the focus on Montessori and the passion and commitment of our staff and families. The BVSD standards are taught using the Montessori Method. We are driving our instruction with formative and summative assessments as well as the student?s love of learning and supporting the child?s exploration of the curriculum. We have a three-hour uninterrupted work cycle in the mornings. During this work cycle, the teacher works with children 1:1 or in small groups. This is where differentiation occurs-both intervention and extension. Montessori classrooms are multi-aged, so the teacher can support children at their level. Children who need support beyond the classroom with literacy or special education receive direct instruction from specialists both inside and outside of the classroom. The teachers at Community Montessori not only have incredible skills but big hearts and great compassion. They are constantly growing as professionals to do what is best for our students. At Community Montessori in BVSD, the school and district data was reviewed by our Leadership Team. Our team is comprised of the principal and teachers (primary, lower elementary and upper elementary). The whole staff looks at the data and determines steps for improvement. We look at what our school needs and what our district as a whole is focusing on. We collaborate with our School Accountability Committee which is comprised of the members of the Leadership Team and parents. We have a focus on Montessori, movement, and mindfulness in our classrooms and decided to continue with that goal and strengthen our practices. We are working on strengthening our Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) with a focus on consistency. Per our Teaching & Learning Conditions Colorado (TLCC) survey, we are continuing to make trauma-informed practices, behavior support, and understanding of special education the focus of our goals and professional learning. Our collaboration time is extremely beneficial in implementing our goals and improving our collegiality. This is one of the root causes of our successes. The UIP creation occurred through BVSD's Strategic School Improvement Process which entailed multiple meetings with school leadership, district leadership, and data support staff. In between each meeting, the principal met with school staff and the School Accountability Committee to debrief on the process and gather input along the way.
