About Vista Peak P-8 Exploratory (9083)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Vista Peak P-8 Exploratory

2025-2026

Vista Peak Exploratory is a school of innovation that opened its doors in 2010. The P-8 school serving a P-20 campus, the schoolrequested innovation status to have more local control over the professional calendar, hiring practices, school-based curriculum, and the overall vision of creating pathways for post-secondary success for students. The school prides itself on a robust STEM and arts program that connects directly to the high school and proves students with a well-rounded educational expe… rience. The school serves a diverse population of 985 students, with 42% being FRL, .4% American Indian, 6.9% Asian, 20% African American, 42% Hispanic, 21.2% white, and 9.2% declaring two or more ethnicities. 26.4% percent of students are identified as ELL, with 5.08% being NEP, 6.5% being FEP, and 9.34% being LEP. 12.5% of students have IEP's and 6,8% are identified as GT. In the 2021-22 school year the school received a performance rating on the school performance rating, scoring 55.7%. This performance rating was the first rating received since 2019-20 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the 2020 school year, the school fell into the Improvement category with the overall performance decreasing from 53.3% to 52.7% from 2018-19 to 2019-20. However, this rating was appealed by the district and the school and the appeal was granted, moving the school back to a Performance rating. In the absence of CMAS data and consistent school data from the 2020 school year due to Covid-19, it was challenging to see what academic and behavioral the pandemic had on students. In the 2022-23 school year, the school saw a growth in enrollment and fluctuations in class sizes. In the second year of schooling from returning from the pandemic the school saw significant local data that indicated the impact the pandemic had on students, particularly in elementary school. Local data indicated significant gaps and smaller growth for students who had fallen into tier three levels during the pandemic. This data was reflected in performance on CMAS, as there were significant drops in academic achievement in both third and fourth grades. Social emotional data also indicated challenges that stemmed from skill sets that were not practiced or utilized during the pandemic. During the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years, the school saw steady growth in both literacy and math, indicating a 7% increase during this time period in meets and exceeds in literacy on state assessments and a 3.5% increase in math. The school also saw both areas improve in did not meets, with a decrease in students in this category by 5% in the two year span.
