About Prairie View High School (7129)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Prairie View High School

2025-2026

2025-26 Update: Prairie View High School has a third year principal 1 new member of our administration team. The team is a strong mix of veteran leaders who have been in the building for several years and some young administrators working on the team. We are working hard to distribute leadership through our instructional coaches and teacher leaders. School Background: Prairie View High School (PVHS) is located in Henderson, Colorado. It was built in 2005 and opened for students in the Fall of 20… 06 as a 7th-10th grade school. It then became a 9th-12th grade school, once the middle school next door was built in 2008. We currently have 90 certified staff who make up 11 departments, including counseling. 8% of our current teaching staff were here when the building opened and we have had extensive turnover over the past few years; 35 new certified staff in 2015-2016, 10 new certified staff in 2016-2017 and 10 new in 2017-2018. We added 35 new in 2019-2020 with mostly due to an increase in building FTE as a result to district supports put in place to support CDE 2021 and beyond graduation requirements. After the 2021-2022 school year we all saw a tremendous change in teacher retention and ability to hire. We had 25 new staff for both the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school year. with only 13 new teacher ins 2024-25. Student Demographics: We currently serve approximately 1800 students on seven period traditional daily schedule on a semester system. 7 classes plus an advisory for each student on a 4-day work week. PVHS is represented by a population that is 69.04% minority and a FRL of 36.5%. We recognize that many more of our families would qualify for FRL, but do not complete the paperwork for a variety of reason. We offer 550 sections; or approximately 55 sections per class period. We currently have 30-35 students per class, not including intervention and special education classes. 14.1% of our students qualify as Multilingual Learners. Almost 10% of our population operates on an IEP. 4% of our population has been identified as Gifted. Stakeholders: Prairie View High School includes admin, teachers, students and families in our UIP process. The administrative team develops in implements professional development that works with our teaching staff to grow their skill level and comfort in utilizing data in their instruction as well as their professional growth. Our students engage in district and content area common assessments that drive data conversations that impact instructional practices and re-teaching. We have also contracted with a program called Capturing Kids Hearts to focus on staff relationships with students. Historically, we have struggled to engage with our families on this topic. We will provide families with an opportunity to discuss the UIP. Initially, we will start with coffee with the principal and have it evolve into establishing a Parent Accountability Committee that will provide feedback.
