Charter Development Summit Module #3: Diverse populations and Community Partnerships: Leveraging Communities to Create High Quality Organizations

Details: Join us for the annual Charter Development Summit, featuring 3 virtual modules and 1 culminating, in-person summit! Formerly known as the Charter School Bootcamp, the Summit is reaching more attendees by presenting relevant information for existing schools looking to expand or replicate, new school developers and key stakeholders in your charter school organization. Our goal is to prepare leaders in education, for high-quality and exceptional accountability for charter school development and success. Spring Equity Convening: Equitable Access to School Choice: Transportation Innovation

Details: Please join the Schools of Choice Unit in partnership with the Colorado League of Charter Schools for the Spring Equity Convening, “Equitable Access to School Choice: Transportation Innovation. During this 1-day in-person convening charter school leaders and authorizers will explore how local and national charter schools, authorizers, and partners are supporting transportation innovations. The Spring 2023 Equity Convening will spotlight approaches including: Inclusive district transportation agreements, local charter school transportation models, and potential solutions to common transportation barriers.

*NEW* Rural/Non Metro Charter Forum

Date: Wednesday, April 5th, 2023

Details: The Unit of Schools of Choice is convening a Rural/Non-Metro Charter Leader Forum to bring together charter school leaders and stakeholders to exchange innovative ideas and problem-solve common issues in the field. This will also be an opportunity to provide feedback to the Schools of Choice unit regarding desired professional development opportunities, technical assistance, and resources.  Our first session will feature guests Roxie Mitchell from CC-Live and Dr. Robert Fulton from the UNC Colorado Center for Rural Education who will tell us about innovative approaches to staffing challenges.

Collaborative for Exceptional Education (CEE) Learning Series #9

Details: In response to the recent research and OCR complaints around enrollment of special education students in charter schools, CDE's Schools of Choice office and the Collaborative for Exceptional Education have designed a special leadership series of virtual training and support titled “From Policy to Practice: Changing Beliefs about Charter Schools’ Inclusivity of Diverse Learners”. Please join us each month as we examine policies and practices that can lead to negative perceptions and even potential liability while also offering strategies and solutions that can positively communicate inclusive messages while protecting the school against legal and financial risk.

Details: Please join the Schools of Choice Unit for the Charter Development Summit. This event has been refined to include the current state of affairs related to accountability, federal/state requirements and a continued emphasis on community partnerships and high-quality charter schools. Participants will glean critical knowledge to ensure their development and maintenance of viable and competitive charter schools in Colorado.

CCSP Grant Budget Workshop (GBW) Spring

Date: Wednesday, April 19th, 2023

Details: This spring budget workshop walks newly awarded and existing charter school sub-grantees through the creation of Excel Budget Worksheet for the following grant year to provide clarification on how to best update their multi-year CCSP budget and obtain timely approval, as well as clarify allowable expenses to ensure federal compliance.

Business Operations Networking Meeting- April (Changed from April 20^th)

Details: In conjunction with the Colorado League of Charter Schools, the Schools of Choice Unit at the Colorado Department of Education have partnered for another year to bring to you Statewide Quarterly Business Operations Networking Meetings. These quarterly statewide meetings will remain in a virtual format from 11:00 am-1:00 pm.
