Thompson School District

Program Description

Thompson School District (TSD) will offer 45 hours of CLDE professional learning that will align to the English Language Learner Professional Development Standards and Elements. The courses will be offered on an ongoing basis and allow interested teachers in our district to complete the pathway over time. We are hoping to start offering the courses in late fall of 2019, assuming approval of our pathway.
Course #1: Culture, Diversity and Equity in TSD (7.5 hours)
Course #2: Engaging EACH Family (7.5 hours)
Course #3: Language Acquisition: SIOP Standards 1 and 2 (4 hours)
Course #4: Language Acquisition: SIOP Standards 3 and 4 (3.5 hours)
Course #5: Language Acquisition: SIOP Standards 5 and 6 (4 hours)
Course #6: Language Acquisition: SIOP Standards 7 and 8 (3.5 hours)
Course #7: Effective Teaching Strategies for CLD Students Part (12 hours)
Course #8: Effective Assessment Strategies for CLD Students (3 hours)
All of the courses will be led by either outside consultants, professors, or members of our district Learning Services or Professional Development teams. These teams include ELD coordinators, SIOP coaches, Director of Professional Development, Director of Language, Culture, and Equity, and Special Education Administration. We will collaborate with each other, so that we have an integrated approach to the delivery of the eight courses. These courses are created based upon current CLDE research and professional readings. Texts used during courses will be an anchor for determining professional learning outcomes and will drive the content. Teachers participating in the TSD pathway will experience a variety of instructional strategies and will work together to apply their learning to their instructional practice.
