Standards and Assessment Task Force

Overview

The Colorado Standards and Assessments Task Force, established by the Colorado General Assembly (HB14-­‐1202), is charged with studying the implications of the statewide assessment system for school districts, public schools, charter schools, educators and students and preparing a report of findings, including legislative recommendations, by January 31, 2015.

The Task Force, comprised of 15 members representing parents, teachers, administrators, school board members and the business community, meets monthly as a whole group and holds additional subgroup meetings as needed. The schedule of upcoming meetings and related materials can be found below. All monthly task force meetings will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The Colorado Standards and Assessments Task Force will hold a series of roundtable discussions for the public to provide an opportunity for interested stakeholders to communicate directly with Task Force Members.  The Roundtable Discussions will be held on the following dates and locations:

  • Monday, October 20 - North High School, Denver - 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
  • Wednesday, October 22 - Battle Mountain High School, Edwards - 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
  • Thursday, October 23 - Nikola Tesla Educational Center, Colorado Springs - 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
  • Tuesday, October 28 - Thompson School District, Loveland - 5:30 pm- 7:30 pm
  • Thursday, October 30 - Monte Vista High School, Monte Vista - 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
  • Thursday, November 6 - CMU Center, Grand Junction - 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
  • Thursday, November 6 - Poudre School District, Fort Collins - 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
  • Thursday, November 13 - Colorado Springs Early Colleges, Colorado Springs - 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Selected members of the Task Force will attend each session. The public is invited to attend and discuss any issues of concern.  The Task Force is particularly interested in the public's response to the following questions:

  • What would an effective statewide assessment system include?
  • How could Colorado improve its assessment system? Please provide specific examples.
  • Are you familiar with the local assessments that are administered to stduents according to requirements of your district? If so, do you belive these assessments are valuable? Why?

Stakeholders are also invited to provide written responses to these questions and/or any other feedback by sending an e-mail to 1202taskforcefeedback@gmail.com. Written comments will be shared with the Task Force at each meeting and posted on the web page.
